The four phases of the Atkins diet
The Atkins diet has 4 different phases:
- Phase 1, Induction
In the first phase of the diet, induction, you eat a maximum
of 20 gram carbs a day. Your body will switch to burning body fat
and go into ketosis. This phase is 2 weeks minimal, but can
be prolonged.
In this phase you eat lots of veggies, meat, fish, poultry,
eggs, cheese, cream, olive oil and other healthy fats.

- Phase 2, Ongoing weight loss phase
Carbs are gradually added to your menu, but not too much.
The goal in phase 2 is to keep losing weight until
you're almost at your ideal weight.
In this phase you add more vegetables and products like
red fruit, nuts and seeds, cottage cheese etc.

- Phase 3, Pre Maintenance phase
In phase 3 you learn to find the amount of carbs that's right for you
to keep your weight. In this phase you'll lose the last few pounds.
More products can be added, like grains, peas, other fruit and veggies
that have more carbs. Read more
- Phase 4, Maintenance phase
By sticking to the atkins principles and only eat the amount of carbs
your body can handle, it's easy to keep your ideal weight forever.
