Phase 4, Lifetime Maintenance.
In phase 4 you stick to your personal carbohydrate level. That's the limit you found out in phase 3
by experimenting. It could mean that you can eat a (whole weat) sandwich sometimes, or some
brown rice or even a potatoe. Maybe you can tolerate 80 carbs a day, but maybe your limit
is 40 grams. This is different for everyone.
Basically, you're in phase 4 as long as you don't gain weight and don't eat sugar or refined carbs
e.g. white bread or white rice.
Gaining weight.
Whenever you find you've gained a few pounds, or you have eaten a lot of bad carbs,
go back in induction and start building up to phase 4 again in a few days.
Ofcourse you shouldn't do that too often, there's always a risk it won't work
for you anymore in the long run.
Atkins for life.
Atkins is not a diet but a lifestyle. People who decide to stop will most likely
gain the lost weight back again. Also all your old health problems could come back.
So it's definitely worthwhile to stick to Atkins for the rest of your life!
